Paris, France - Nissan's fifth-generation Micra has been unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Nissan says its new Micra is lower, wider and longer than its predecessors and has more interior space.
The hatchback is also equipped with downsized turbo drivetrains, a new chassis and a host of new safety features.
Nissan South Africa confirmed that the new Micra will be coming to SA, but that launch dates, models and specifications will only be confirmed after the European launch. The Micra is going on sale in Europe in March 2017.
Engines
At launch, the car will be offered in Europe with choice of a 0.9-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel, both developing 67kW.

The range will be joined soon after by a naturally aspirated 54kW 1.0-litre petrol engine.
Styling
The Micra’s styling include’s Nissan’s V-motion grille, boomerang-shaped lights, and a ‘floating’ roof. Rear door handles are hidden in the C-pillars and the extended roofline incorporates a spoiler.
A selection of ten exterior colours, including Energy Orange, is available. Nissan says the additional exterior and interior personalisation options allow for the creation of 125 different variations.

Nissan notes that the Micra’s driving position has been lowered with seats offering more adjustment options.
The new Nissan Micra will be built in Europe at the Renault plant in Flins, France, as part of the Renault Nissan Alliance.
Technology on board
Available technologies include lane departure prevention (LDP), intelligent emergency braking (IEB) with pedestrian recognition, as well as intelligent around view monitor (AVM), traffic sign recognition, high beam assist and blind spot warning.

Also on offer is a new six-speaker Bose Personal sound system. Nissan says this system, with two Bose UltraNearfield speakers, is optimised for the driver. Additional Bose Super65 speakers are positioned in each of the front doors.
The Micra comes with a 7” full colour central display.
