The SADC Drivers Association has warned of retaliation if foreign truck drivers are attacked during the planned national shutdown in South Africa.

The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF-ASA) plan to embark on a national shutdown on Monday, which is expected to disrupt major transport routes, including the N3 between Durban and Johannesburg, which will be the epicentre of the shutdown.

The ATDF-ASA said the shutdown aimed to save truck driving jobs from being "taken away by foreign nationals".
